OCCUPATIONAL FIELD 68, WEATHER SERVICE


The weather service OccFld is unique in that it is the only earth science related OccFld in the Marine Corps.

The weather service OccFld is responsible for providing meteorological and oceanographic (MEJOC) and space environmental observations, analysis, climatological and prognostic information in support of Marine corps operations.

The weather service OccFld includes MOS 6821, Weather Observer, and MOS 6842, Weather Forecaster, and is progressive in nature.

Marines entering this OccFld will receive MOS 6800, Basic Weather Service Marine, and will participate in routine weather service functions while training for a designated MOS within the OccFld.

Formal schooling is provided for each MOS. Billets include assignments to MEF Weather Support Teams (MST), and each Marine Wing Support Squadron as well as to each Marine Corps Air Station and Facility.
