Bronze Star Medal

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the
BRONZE STAR MEDAL to

SERGEANT ROBERT M. DULLEA
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE

For service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

“For heroic service while serving as a Squad Leader of Company F, Second Battalion, Twenty-fourth Marines, Fourth Marine Division, during operations against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 7 March 1945. When heavy hostile mortar and rifle fire inflicted severe casualties on his platoon, including the Platoon Leader and other non-commissioned officers, Sergeant Dullea immediately assumed command of the platoon, reorganized it and continued the advance, maintaining contact with adjacent units. Although the personnel complement of his platoon was reduced by fifty percent, he led the depleted unit to achieve the day's objective. Repeatedly braving enemy fire, he assisted in evacuating the wounded. His leadership, coolness under fire and courageous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”

The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.
