Bronze Star Medal

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the
BRONZE STAR MEDAL to

LANCE CORPORAL HAROLD H. CLAYBURN
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

For service as set forth as the following

CITATION:

“For heroic achievement in connection with operations against the enemy while serving as Fire Team Leader, Second Squad, First Platoon, Company "G," Battalion Landing Team 2/8 with the United States Contingent of the Multinational Force. During the evening of 4 December 1983, Lance Corporal Clayburn, with his team, manned an outpost 600 meters outside the Company's perimeter. While under intense machine gun and small arms fire, he observed a direct hit of a mortar round on fellow Marines across the street. Lance Corporal Clayburn crossed the fire-swept street and administered first aid to the survivors. Finding the radio destroyed and realizing that he must get medical help, he made his way back to the Company perimeter, crawling at times due to the intense fire. After reporting, he braved enemy fire again to return to the casualties and prepare them for movement. Lance Corporal Clayburn's courage, personal initiative, and loyal devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.”

The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.
