L. Close
Lieutenant
Colonel David L. Close graduated from Texas A & M University and
was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1982.
Upon
graduation from the Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course, he commenced his career
as an infantry officer in 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, serving as a Rifle and Weapons
Platoon Commander, Company Commander and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer. He subsequently served as the Registrar, Marine
Corps Institute in 1987 and Company Commander, Marine Barracks Washington D.C. from 1988
to 1990.
After
graduating from the Army Infantry Officer Advance Course in 1991, Captain Close was
transferred to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served
as Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer.
Major Close was assigned to 12th Marine Corps Recruiting District in 1994, where he
served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station San Francisco, California until
1997.
He
graduated with distinction from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1998 and was
assigned to United States Pacific Command Operations Directorate as the Chief of the
Marine Forces Branch, Current Operations Division through December 2000.
