4th Marines Regimental Sergeant Major

 

        Sergeant Major Guerra enlisted in the Marine Corps on Dec 26,1975. During Mar 1976, he completed recruit training at MCRD, San Diego, CA and was transferred to the military Police School, Fort McClellan, AL where he attended the Basic Military police Academy.

       After graduation, PFC Guerra was transferred to the Provost Marshals Office, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, GA. During 1977 he was transferred to Lackland, AFB to attend the Military Working Dog Academy, where he graduated 6 months later, as a Patrol/Drug Detector Dog Handler. He was then transferred back to MCLB, Albany, GA. In Sept 1979 Sergeant Guerra was transferred to Marine Corps Base, Okinawa, Japan.

     During Oct 1980, he was transferred back to MCLB, Albany, GA where he was assigned as a Criminal Investigator. In Nov 1981 he was promoted to SSgt and was transferred to Lackland, AFB. There, he was assigned to the Security Police Academy.

     During his tour at Lackland, he served as Narcotic Instructor, Explosive Instructor at the Military Working Dog Courses, and a Weapons Instructor at the Marine Corps Ranges. In Jun 1986, he was transferred to HQMC as the Occupational Field sponsor for the 5800 MOS. In the spring of 1989 he was transferred to Marine Barracks, Subic Bay, Philippines where he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. During his stay at the barracks he served as a Platoon Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Company Gunny and as H&S First Sergeant. Again, he served as the Weapons Instructor for the four companies at the barracks. When Marine Barracks, Subic was turned back to the Philippine Government in Nov 1992, Gunnery Sergeant Guerra was transferred to Fort McClellan, AL as a Weapons Instructor.

     In May 1995, Gunnery Sergeant Guerra was promoted to First Sergeant and transferred to 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, HI, as the Company First Sergeant for C Company. In Jul 1996, while on unit deployment to Okinawa, he was the First Sergeant for the Ground Combat Element during the evacuation of the Kurdish people out of Turkey into Guam. Upon the return to Kaneohe Bay, HI in Jan 1997 he was assigned as the acting Sergeant Major for Landing Force Carat 97 and deployed aboard the LST USSS Frederick in May 1997. When he returned in Oct 1997 he was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for HQ Co, 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, HI. 

    In Apr 1998, Sergeant Major Guerra assumed the position of the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2d Bn, 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, HI.  On Mar 10, 1998 he deployed again with the Battalion to Okinawa, Japan. During the deployment he supported Cobra Gold 99 in Thailand, KITP 99 in Pohang, South Korea, Camp Fuji, Japan and Carat 99. On 12 Oct 1999, he returned to Kaneohe Bay, HI where he was relieved as the Battalion Sergeant Major, and transferred to his current assignment as Detachment Sergeant Major, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

     In Nov 1999 Sergeant Major Guerra assumed the Detachment Sergeant Major position at Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.  During his assignment at Ft Leonard Wood he was the senior enlisted advisor/mentor to approx 1200 Marines and to 300 staff/instructors in various MOS i.e. military police, NBC, motor transportation, engineers, along with all the advanced courses.

    In May 2001 Sergeant Major Guerra assumed the Battalion Sergeant Major position at Third Intelligence Battalion, Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan.   

     On  Jun 2002 he was relieved as the 3d Intelligence Battalion Sergeant Major and transferred to 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan as the 4th Marine Regiment Sergeant Major.
