Contacting
4th Marines
Getting a hold of friends and loved ones who are deployed or stationed overseas
can be a challenge. Our goal here is to make it as easy as possible for you to
call, write, or e-mail Marines and Sailors who are a part of 4th Marines.
Calling
by Phone:
- U.S. Military Installations on Okinawa use the
Defense Switched Network (DSN) for calls within Okinawa. All DSN phone
numbers on Okinawa are seven digits long and begin with '6'; as an example,
the Officer of the Day (after hours duty officer) for 4th Marines' phone
number is 625-2600.
- When dialing from a regular phone line in the
United States, you must first dial the international dialing prefix (011),
the country code for Japan (81), the area code for military phone lines
(6117), then the last six digits of the DSN phone number. As an example, for
the 4th Marines' Officer of the Day, the number would be:
011
- 81 - 6117 - 25 - 2600
- When calling from a DSN phone on a military
installation in the United States or Europe, ensure that you are using a
phone line with international DSN access, and dial the DSN area code (315)
followed by the seven digit DSN phone number. For example, to call the 4th
Marines' Officer of the Day, you would dial:
315
- 625 - 2600
- Cell Phones are extremely popular in Japan,
and many service members use them while stationed here. Cell phone numbers
are unique in Japan in that they beginning with the area code '090' and have
eleven digit phone numbers rather than the standard ten digits used on all
other phone systems. However, when calling a cell phone from the states, you
do not dial the first digit of the area code. Thus, you would dial the
international dialing prefix (011), the country code for Japan (81), the
last two digits of the area code for cell phones (90), then the eight digit
phone number. For example, if given the number 090-1234-9876,
you would dial:
011-81-90-1234-9876
- The Marine Corps Base Operator on Okinawa can
be reached at 640-1110. For Air
Force personnel, the Kadena Base Operator's phone number is 630-1110.
Use the directions listed above to determine the correct dialing sequence.
Contact
via E-Mail:
- For those Marines and Sailors who have
personal e-mail accounts (i.e., Hotmail or AOL addresses), internet access
is available at low cost on all bases which house 4th Marines' units.
However, when units are in the field or on exercises, internet access is
usually not available.
- Marines and sailors who communicate via e-mail
in the course of duty are given a military e-mail account while on Okinawa.
The format for this address is the user's last name and first two initials
followed by @3div.usmc.mil. For
example, LtGen Lewis B. Puller's e-mail address would be:
PullerLB@3div.usmc.mil
- The Joint Navy/Marine Corps White Pages is a
website maintained by the Department of the Navy which lists all official
e-mail accounts for Marines and Sailors. This may assist in finding not only
e-mail addresses, but office phone numbers as well. The address for this
site is:
http://dir.navy.mil
