4th Marines
Subordinate Units
4th Marine Regiment is made up of four individual units: a Headquarters Company
and three Infantry Battalions. 4th Marines is unique among infantry regiments
because of its role in the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). The UDP program was
designed to increase unit morale, integrity, and training capability by allowing
battalions stationed in the U.S. to deploy to Okinawa on a six-month basis,
thereby affording the unit increased training opportunities with our Asian
allies. By deploying as an integrated battalion instead of on an individual
basis, Marines are spared the stresses involved with joining an unfamiliar unit,
allowing them to better handle the challenge of being overseas while
concentrating on the training provided. While stationed here on Okinawa,
battalions can look forward to a heavy training schedule, and will have the
opportunity to deploy to many of the following areas: mainland Japan, Korea,
Thailand, Australia, the Philippines, and various other Asian regions.
Headquarters Company is the only unit within 4th
Marines with permanently stationed personnel. Marines and sailors assigned to
this company serve one to three year tours on Okinawa. This site is maintained
by the company, and the links to your left provide extensive information about
the operations of the company.
