| Moored inboard of Oklahoma and ahead of
Tennessee, Maryland suffered little damage. Target of Mitsuo Fuchida's V
of high-altitude Kates, she suffered two 250-kg bomb hits. The first
impacted on the forecastle, opening a hole 2 feet by 20 feet, damaging
the below compartments and starting an awning fire on-deck. The second
bomb hit the hull forward and detonated within the hold, which caused
significant flooding in this area and and dropped her bow five feet.
Despite these impacts Maryland suffered the least physical damage of all
the battleships, and her casualties--two officers and two enlisted men
dead--were the lightest.
