Activated 5 November 1918 at Nontierchame, France.
Relocated during July-August 1919 to Hampton Roads, VA
Deactivated 11 August 1919

1927 - 1929
Reactivated 9 May 1927 at Quantico, VA
Deployed during May 1927 to Chinandega, Nicaragua and assigned to the 2nd Brigade.
Participated in operations against rebel forces, May-July 1927
Redesignated 1 July 1927 as the 2nd Separate Battalion, 11th Regiment.
Redesignated 6 August 1927 as the 2nd Battalion, 11th Regiment and relocated to San Diego, CA.
Deactivated 10 September 1927
Reactivated 5 January 1928 at San Diego as the 2nd Battalion, 11th Regiment.
Deployed during January 1928 to Corinto, Nicaragua and assigned to the 2nd Brigade.
Deactivated 20 August 1929 on board the USS Henderson while enroute to the U.S.

1941 - 1947
Reactivated 1 January 1941 at Guantanamo, Cuba as the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Brigade.
1st Marine Brigade redesignated 1 February 1941 as the 1st Marine Division.
Relocated during April 1941 to Parris Island, SC.
Deployed during June 1942 to Wellington, New Zealand.
Participated in the following World War II campaigns:

FINSCHHAFEN
NEW BRITAIN
PELELIU
OKINAWA
Redeployed during September 1945 to Tientsin, China.
Participated in the occupation of North China, September 1945 to December 1946.
Redeployed during January-February 1947 to Guam, and reassigned to Fleet Marine Force, Pacific.
Relocated during April-May 1947 to Camp Pendleton, CA, and reassigned to the 3rd Marine Brigade.
11th Marines reassigned during July 1947 to the 1st Marine Division.
Relocated during August 1947 to Barstow, CA.
Deactivated 30 September 1947.

1950 - 1965
Reactivated 7 August 1950 at Camp Pendleton, CA as the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division.
Deployed during August-September 1950 to Kobe, Japan.
Participated in the Korean War, September 1950 - July 1953, operating from:
INCHON-SEOUL
CHOSIN RESERVOIR
EAST CENTRAL FRONT
WESTERN FRONT
Participated in the defense of the Korean Demilitarized Zone, July 1953 - March 1955.
Relocated during March 1955 to Camp Pendleton, California.

Redeployed during May 1966 to the Republic of Vietnam.
